Carpet cleaning is an essential part of proper home care. Though carpet cleaning can be an overwhelming task, it can become very easy if we have the right knowledge equipment at our disposal.
It does without saying that the best care you can give your carpet is to avoid it getting dirty in the first place. If it is possible, declare your carpeted areas as no-shoe zones. You know, even when shoes or slippers look clean, there are always tiny dirt particles under which can mess up your carpet and even damage its fibers. After all as the saying goes, prevention is better than cure.
Nevertheless, it is nearly impossible for us not to spill food or drinks on our carpets. However, when remember to blot or dab and not to scrub or rub the stain. Scrubbing or rubbing will just probably spread the stains further and even damage your carpet’s fibers causing wears and tears. It is recommended to get rid of stains when they are still fresh, so as to avoid permanent damage. Besides if you do not properly remove the stain it would reappear after some time.
Never panic or be in a haste to get rid of a stain, as this can sometimes push us to aggravate the situation. For example, in order to dry the spot rapidly, we sometimes hair dryers or irons; this only locks the stain permanently on our carpets.
Vacuuming regularly the carpet will go a long way to successfully eliminate dirt that has accumulated on the carpet. It can so happen that, the vacuum cleaner can not effectively rid the carpet of all dirt because some of it has penetrated the carpet’s fibers. In case, it is advisable to perform deep or steam cleaning. Machines needed for deep cleaning can be found in stores. However, you can hire professional carpet cleaners if you do not want to put yourself through the strain of this task. Whatever decision you take, just remember that it is vital to clean your carpet at least once or twice a year.
Whatever you do, do not use detergents that contain bleach and if you must, go for bleaching agents that have no chlorine. Salt solution and lemon juice are good for colored fabrics. However it is advisable to test your cleaning agent on an inconspicuous spot of the carpet. If the agent does not discolor the carpet, then you can go ahead and use it.
