Soon after you are done with the renovation work of your house, there is some another tedious work waiting for you; carpet cleaning. Due to the wall painting, there would be a number of droplets on the carpets. No matter how hard you had tried to keep your carpet safe from them, you are still going to find them. Often the stains are engraved on the most visible area of your carpet, being an eye sore.
This is however not something to worry. You don’t need to buy a new carpet. There are easy way of getting rid of these paint stains. Water paints and oil paints have different methods of removing them. I’ll try to cover both of these topics in greater depth in the following section.Treating Water-Based Paints
Latex paint must be removed instantly from the carpet to make sure that it does not become a permanent stain. Timing is the key. Keep your equipment and cleansers ready so that no time is wasted. First part is scraping; use a dull tool and try to scrape as much of the paint as possible. The rest of the stain can be removed using a damp sponge. Start with the center of the stain and move towards the edges. It is advisable to use only gentle strokes and avoid any sharp scrapers, else the surface of the carpet may lose its texture.
Now take a dry spotter and using a piece of cloth and place it on the affected area. The time required to make the stain completely disappear depends upon the strength of the stain. Let the cloth over the spot for as much time as you may find necessary and until the paint color has completely been removed. You may also want to replace the cloth with a newer one, if it fills up fully with the paint. Spotter liquid proves here to be useful as you would keep the stain and the cloth moist for easy cleaning. When you are done, take some warm water and wash it up.Treating Oil-Based Paint
Turpentine is used in most paints, however, you can also check the container paint to see what type of thinner has been used. If you are not sure, you can work it with turpentine as it does the job in most cases.
Using turpentine, soak the affected area on your carpet. You would need to be careful that the stain does not get spread and stay contained. Once you are done with this cleaning, rinse it with warm water (or dish detergent).
